How Can I Detect 6 GHz Over 2.4 or 5 GHz
Reduced Neighbor Reporting over 2.4 or 5 GHz can indicate the presence of a tri-band 6 GHz AP
Reduced Neighbor Reporting (RNR) introduced in IEEE 802.11k are short packets of information broadcasted by APs with basic information like signal strength, channel number, and BSSID. When an RNR sent over a 2.4 or 5 GHz displays a high-side 5 GHz channel number, this can indicate the presence of 6 GHz. The use of unsolicited probe response frames, which is detected via RNR, can also indicate the presence of 6 GHz. Therefore, we are able to deduce the presence of 6 GHz from the information being sent by the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio of the same tri-band device.
